This database is an index to approximately 949,000 marriages that took place in Wisconsin between 1973 and 1997. Information that may be found in this database includes groom's name, groom's age, groom's residence (county and/or state), bride's name, bride's age, bride's residence (county and/or state), marriage date, marriage county, and marriage certificate number. (Note: not all of this information may be provided for each individual or marriage). Marriage records are great sources for genealogists because they document an individual in a particular place and time as well as provide details about that person's marriage.

It is important that you use the information found in this database to locate your relative in the original records that this index references. Usually more information is available in the records themselves than is found in an index. For example, marriage records sometimes provide the birth dates and places of the bride and groom, their parents' names, their addresses, and witnesses' names, in addition to the information provided in this index.

Wisconsin issued marriage applications as early as the 1820s in some counties, although most jurisdictions began maintaining them with county organization.
